Who We Are
The Exeter Dementia Action Alliance is a small group of people raising awareness of dementia and working towards a dementia-friendly city. We are a membership organisation and wish to inspire organisations and businesses to join us in making practical changes. We are also a registered charity administered by The Charities Trust.
We seek to empower people living with dementia and their families. and continue to place them at the heart of our vision.
We are part of the national Dementia Action Alliance network.
The Alliance was formed and is led by Gina Awad BEM.
Gina trained as a Dementia Friends Champion in 2014 and formed the Alliance later that year.
Gina is passionate about the needs of people living with dementia and their families, recognising a whole community response is essential.
Gina has received a number of accolades including Dementia Champion of the Year 2016 in the National Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friendly Awards and honoured in the Queen’s Birthday list in June 2018 with a British Empire Medal for her contribution to people living with Dementia in Devon.
Gina also presents a quarterly radio show on Phonic FM called ‘Living Better with Dementia’ between 2-4pm on the 5th Saturday of the month.
